For upcoming volunteer cleanup events at China Hat, please follow Public Land Stewards at:
Over the course of two days in May and June of 2021: ~50,000 lbs. of trash plus 7 passenger vehicles, 1 Class C motorhome and 1 truck camper were removed from the first four miles of China Hat Road/NF-18.

China Hat: 56 adults, 7 children
Bend: 43 adults, 5 children
Juniper Ridge: 47 adults, 4 children
La Pine: 7 adults, 1 child
Redmond: 2 adults
Total Households: 126
Total of Unhoused Individuals: 170 (153 adults and 17 children)
Of those 126 households, 40 households have received Case Management…
Housed: 7 households (10 adults and 2 children) have secured housing since 08/01/23
One household (1 adult) displaced from Hunnell Road
Five households (7 adults and 1 child) that were unhoused in town in Bend
One household (2 adults and 1 child) in La Pine
Motel Stays: 11 households (13 adults and 1 child) ~25 weeks combined due to medical conditions or safety concerns, 4 of these 11 households have been housed. About half of the motel stays were covered by churches.
Vehicle Flex Funding: 19 households (21 adults and 7 children)
Vehicle repairs, car insurance, fuel, dmv fees, car payments
Outreach: 126 households (153 adults and 17 children)
~ 500 qty 5 gallon propane tanks ( ~2,500+ gallons of propane) swapped
Gift Cards/Groceries/Water/Dog Food/Fuel/Phone cards

We are coordinating partnerships and planning for consistent “Outreach Outposts” at China Hat within the first two miles where China Hat Road becomes NF-18, a second location near Horse Butte and a location TBD at Juniper Ridge.
